PAST

STE-CROIX CHURCH

327 Lafontaine Road West

Ste-Croix church

The heart of the village was the church. People would spend a significant amount of time there for various religious celebrations. Our timeframe covers the reign of the illustrious Father Thomas Marchildon who arrived well before 1950 and would remain at St. Croix until 1968. It was he who gave rise to the notion of a cooperative, and who fostered the advancement of agricultural knowledge such as seed potatoes. Under the bell tower, the voice of Anatole Charlebois could be heard, accompanied by his wife Bernadette. In 1955, the parish celebrated its 100th anniversary. Father Marchildon took the opportunity to stage the premiere of the legend of The Lafontaine Wolf. The parish’s centennial was also when Joseph Marchand was ordained a priest.
