Desroches’ Store

The fifties to the seventies were neither the beginning nor the end of this store located in the heart of Lafontaine. It was in 1938 that Gertrude (Brunelle) and Laurent Desroches launched their own business. There was competition at the time. They had to make sure they had everything. Even in 1950, people didn’t go “into town’’ as often. The general store was aptly named by offering food, farm clothing, toiletries, treats, cigarettes and especially candy! When your nine children roll up their sleeves with mom and dad, you could call it a family business!
